When people choose a rehab program, they usually consider only outpatient and inpatient treatment plans. However, there are more addiction programs out there for people to choose from. At The Hills Outpatient Center, clients can choose an intensive outpatient program (IOP), which is different from standard outpatient programs. It’s important for people to know the differences between intensive outpatient and outpatient programs.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
An intensive outpatient program or IOP is the highest level of care that people can seek aside from residential treatment. The amount of time and devotion that they get and put into IOPs is much more than traditional outpatient programs.
Sometimes clients go through all of these programs over the course of their treatment. Those with long-running addiction problems usually start with residential or inpatient treatment. Once they complete residential treatment, they step down to an IOP. This program still gives them a high level of care but provides more freedom.
Once they finish the IOP, they can move down to a traditional outpatient program. This approach gives them more time to focus on other aspects of their lives such as work, school, and family.
The Biggest Difference Is Time
The main difference between outpatient programs and IOPs is how much time that clients have to put into them. For example, The Hills’ outpatient program requires clients to visit up to three days a week. IOP has them visit three to six days a week. During IOP, they have to put much more time into group therapy.
Individual and group therapies help clients get to the root cause of their addictions. The Hills Outpatient Center also teaches relapse prevention and stress reduction techniques. In addition, our location provides quick access to gyms, restaurants, and shopping.
